Today is the last day of December and the last day of the 2000′s. Several writers have commented in the last few weeks about what a decade of upheaval this has been. I agree. The most dominant impression I will have of this decade is that it gave me three daughters. I know upheaval.
We had a wonderful Christmas. My mother-in-law (Suzanne), father-in-law (Glenn), sister-in-law (Skeez), brother-in-law (Glenn), my brother-in-law’s fiance (Lena) and their boxer puppy (Braddock) came for Christmas. We had so many gifts to exchange and so much opening to do that we had a morning and an evening session on Christmas day. I was running on four hours sleep Christmas morning (don’t ask) and was able to grab some shuteye between the two gift exchanges. My camera battery ran out of juice before all the unwrapping was complete. It was epic.
There was a lot of good food through the weekend. I am still plowing through all the leftovers which is awesome because I am good on a microwave.
I think everyone received everything their hearts desired and there was definitely a spirit of gratitude – well except for when Sharon had a meltdown because she thought Kayleigh got a Nintendo DSI and she didn’t. We let her wallow for about 10 minutes and then she managed to locate a gift under the tree that contained her DSI. Order was restored in the universe.
I am looking forward to the next decade – one day at a time.

I believe everyone received their hearts desire also!
As usual, it was great reading the blog and the photos were very very good of everyone.
But I DID miss seeing photos of Mark in the Christmas celebration!
Melissa DOES have to be one of the most photogenic people on earth with one of the very best smiles I’ve ever seen. Justin & Jim always say the same thing! I must say she looked beautiful in these photos!!! Love the new hairdo also! Hey she was smiling so beautifully in ALL the photos until the last 2….where she was holding up the Molly Ivins book we sent her and the “Angel” lotion. Wha’ happen anyway?

Well hey Melissa, did you like the top we sent? I think it is the best color ever on you. I have the receipt for the book if you already have or do not like.
Love, Nancy

Nope, she loved the book and the top. Molly Ivins is one of her all time favorite columnists. I have been informed that I am not fit to man the camera and only take shots when people are not ready. I think you just saw a bunch of action shots where the facial expressions were in response to something being said off-camera. I look forward to relinquishing my camera duties as it is a thankless job and I am tired of bumping my glasses into the optical viewfinder.

That is SO FUNNY (and kinda sad….but still funny) the comment about it being a thankless job……..and “tired of bumping your glasses into the optical viewfinder”. Really made me laugh. I luv U, mom “)

Nancy, Things have been so busy with the holidays and the kids being home! I have missed you and will call you today. I LOVE the top and the book!! I think you are right about the color. And I miss Molly Ivins so much – she was such a larger than life character. That book just came out so I was thrilled to get it! Did you know that they are doing a play about her life and Kathleen Turner is going to play her? I think that will be good. Talk to you soon – and yes, the facial expressions are because I couldn’t shut up, and I was running on about 9 hours of sleep in 48 hours.

Wow! What a great Christmas ya’ll had—finally located my password–DUH! Loved seeing everyone and Nancy, Jim and Justin at Thanksgiving. Ours was much quieter–Ken and I have now gone to a small, prelit tree–but the younger generation has taken up the torch with a large, real tree. Ya’ll all stay healthy and gorgeous in 2010! Love, a

Oops! Forgot to mention that we LOVE Molly Ivins too! What a void she left–can’t wait for the movie! Speaking of–maybe the Terrence Malick film shot in Smithville in spring and summer of ’08 with Brad Pitt and Sean Penn will be released this year. Director Malick is notorious for tinkering with his films and delaying release. It’s call “Tree of Life”–Have a great, warm, wonderful January and keep the beatiful family pictures coming.

Ann, happy 2010 to you and Kenny as well! I will keep and eye out for “Tree of Life”. It sounds like it will be good based on the cast. I still need to knock out Dan Brown’s latest book and then got “Food Inc.” for Christmas and want to read it. May need to borrow the Molly Ivins book from Melissa once I get caught up. I bought her a Kindle for Christmas and she is enjoying it so far. She can get the older, out of copyright books on it for free. I think she is reading some Jane Austen on it currently.
