You have to love it when Valentine’s Day is preceded by Friday the 13th. For some it would seem redundant? Melissa and I had a good Valentine’s Day (we had a good Friday the 13th for that matter). We watched The Sarah Connor Chronicles season premiere and the latest installment of Battlestar Galactica on Friday and then just relaxed and watched movies over Valnetine’s weekend.
I also haven’t had a cigarette since February 7th. They raised the price-per-carton in Kentucky by $11, but I had already wanted to give quitting another go because I was sick of the smell of myself and was starting to feel a tad winded. It has been nice to wake up in the morning without that taste in my mouth. It has been nice to not feel self-conscious about how I smell and it has been nice to be able to work on something contiguously without having to take a break to smoke.
On the other hand, I never really seem to quit smoking so much as I take a break between relapses.
In more important news, my brother-in-law Glenn came stateside for a couple of weeks leave from Afghanistan and he was able to come down with his fiance’ Lena and visit us for a couple of days. There is a good chance that Glenn will next be stationed at Fort Knox and we took the opportunity to show him around a little bit. We also took the opportunity to eat well (selflessly) and try to fatten him up a bit. Between the MRE’s and all the walking/aerobic activity, Glenn was lean and mean. We tried to throw a few pounds on him while he was here and had a very nice, relaxing visit. We are all praying for his safety and protection and eagerly await his return home. For someone who has lived in an extremely stressful environment for 9 months now he is remarkably well-adjusted and level-headed. Glenn’s attitude and demeanor were very reassuring and I think he made Melissa a lot less worried about him just seeing how solid he is.
The rest of the February photos are here.
