A very busy week this was. After taking last week off for Fall Break, there was a lot to be done and catch-up on back in La Grange, and for me back at work. Guess that’s why they call it work. Halloween was this week. Suzanne, my mother-in-law, hand-made witches costumes for Sharon and Kayleigh, as well as a cute little pumpkin costume for Stella. Suzanne has probably made over a dozen award-worthy costumes for the kids over the years. The costume which began this tradition was a lion costume for James on his first Halloween. For whatever reason, the memory of James in that lion costume is the single most indelible image of my adult life. Before we had a digital camera, I had several photos of him in that costume. One of Melissa holding him in that costume and one of him laying on his back on a blanket in that costume. I had one of the photos on my desk for years. Despite the selfish and self-centered fog I tend to be immersed in – I remember seeing James in that costume, recognizing that this Halloween was his first “holiday” on this Earth, not being able to stop thinking how cute and irresistable he looked and how it very much drove home the fact that I was now a father. Of course, it still took a few years before I started acting like one. ANYWAY, below are a few good ones of the kids from this year and several more are in an album here. Melissa and Suzanne did a great job on Halloween (and Halloween memories) as always.
